Devizes Town Cycling Club has a small core of keen women riders. Percentage wise were not dissimilar to other clubs – but we want to spearhead women’s cycling at local club level or at least in and around Devizes to start with.
How Are We Doing This?
To achieve this means encouraging more of the many women riders we see out and about to take the plunge and come and join us.
We all got into the club by different ways, from different backgrounds, but many members with the same anxieties and concerns. Will I be quick enough? Are they going to be friendly? The answer is Yes!
Being part of a club makes a huge difference to most – as a group we tend to ride more often, more confidently whilst meeting like minded people and enjoying the social aspects of cake and coffee stops.
The Club Events Secretary/women’s coordinator acts as the focus for women’s cycling on the Club Committee, so we have a strong female voice in everything the club does.
Don’t Be Put Off..
Our membership is evolving, and we’re keen to identify and overcome reasons that deter some women riders from joining clubs. Devizes Town Cycling would like to take the lead in promoting women’s cycling in what remains a male oriented sport.
Your Opinion Counts!
If you have any suggestions or ideas how we encourage more women to join please do not hesitate to get in touch with The Women’s Cycling Coordinator.
If you have a road bike and think you can ride for about an hour to an hour and half at 13mph/22kmph then you’re more than capable of riding with the club.
Still Not Sure?
If you’re still unsure then join one of our monthly intro rides whose aim is to introduce those less experienced to riding in a group setting.
If you have any questions or are still not sure, please feel free to make contact us.
